My Profile

Hi, my name is Jerke Verschoor and I was born on May 30th 1978 in Oss, the Netherlands.
After finishing high-school I started my studies at the University of Utrecht. I chose to study history of Russia & Eastern Europe which eventually led me to the biggest country in the world which led me, as of August 2011, to one of the most populated countries in the world.

Here is a short summary of what happened (professionally...) since I started studying:

  • 1996-2002 - Study of Russian history at Universities of Utrecht & Amsterdam, masterthesis on "Russia and the West during the 2nd Chechen War"
  • 1999-2000 - Russian language studies at St. Petersburg State University
  • 2001 - Internship with Dutch freelance journalist in St. Petersburg, Russia
  • 2002-2004 - Started work as a sales manager for KS Media & Events, publisher of St. Petersburg and Moscw In Your Pocket
  • 2004-2006 - Moved to Gent, Belgium and continued work as a sales manager for Glass Deco International
  • 2006-2009 - Moved to Moscow to work for Stroymoda, the exclusive dealer in the Russian Federation for Ahrend Office Furniture
  • 2009-2011 - Returned to the Netherlands after almost living 10 years abroad. Worked at Ahrend HQ in Amsterdam
  • August 2011 - Decided upon a new adventure, working in India (based in Gurgaon) for Concordia Projects, specialized in fitting-out hotels and offices

While living in Russia I also gave lectures to Dutch tourists on different subjects, ranging from the political situation in Russia, to economics, daily life adventures etc.

For the past 6 years I was also working once or twice a year as a tourguide for the Institute of Travel. Travels included rivercruises from St. Petersburg to Moscow, Moscow to Volgograd, Moscow to Perm, Black Sea cruises (Istanbul - Kiev), Crimea and the Baltic countries.

Have fun reading my blog.
